Driving Books Home is a collaborative project brought to the greater Oswego community by the Oswego YMCA, the Oswego City School District, SUNY Oswego, and the Oswego Public Library. While the crux of the program is delivering free books via the iconic bookmobile, the program yields to the more intrinsic needs of our at-risk children.
Driving Books Home utilizes trained volunteers with specialties in literacy and education to provide motivation, encouragement, and guidance in selecting books at an independent reading level. The children are provided opportunities to participate in activities that will enhance their reading experience, comprehension and solidify their reading word inventory.
